Delivered by an experienced Wellbeing Coach, Stay Well offers an introductory programme + a series of specialist training sessions

Introductory Programme
Understanding the Emotional Wellbeing and
Mental Health of Children & Young People (4 hours)
- An introduction to children and young people’s mental health
- Risk & Protective Factors that impact upon children & young people’s mental health
- Understanding common mental health conditions and in children and young people
- Helpful resources to support children and young people
- Thrive – Service structures in Stoke on Trent
*It is advised (but not compulsory) to complete the introductory programme before accessing the specialist training sessions
Specialist Training Sessions
Supporting children and young people
with Worry & Low Mood (2 hours)
- Understanding the impact of worry and low mood in children and young people
- Recognising the symptoms that children and young people may present with
- Risk & protective factors that may cause a young person to experience worry and low mood
- Techniques to help manage worry and low mood
Raising Self-Esteem in Children & Young People (2 hours)
- Understand the importance of children and young people
- Understand the factors that contribute to the development of self-esteem
- Identify indicators of low self-esteem
- Promoting self-esteem in children & young people
Understanding & Managing Self-Harm in
Children & Young People (2 hours)
- An understanding of what constitutes as self-harm
- Knowledge of the self-harm continuum
- An ability to identify indicators of self-harm
- Learn alternative techniques that young people can utilise to manage self-harm
Suicide Awareness (2 hours)
- Gain an understanding about suicide in children and young people
- Identify and recognise signs of suicidal thoughts and actions
- Skills and confidence to approach children and young people to discuss suicide
- Knowledge and skills to create a safety plan with children and young people
Dealing with Difficult Emotions – Anger (2 hours)
- Understanding anger in children and young people
- Identify signs and symptoms of difficult emotions
- Supporting children and young people through difficult emotions
- Helpful activities and resources
Cyberbullying & Social Media Awareness (2 hours)
- An understanding of cyberbullying and the law
- Spotting the signs of cyberbullying
- Ways to reduce cyberbullying
- Understanding the use of social media in children and young people
- Support available for children and young people
Supporting children & Young PeoplewithBereavement & Loss* (2 hours)
*Delivered by the Dove Service
- Raising awareness and understanding of grief in children and young people
- The varying ways grief and loss can impact a child/young person
- Useful resources to support children and young people experiencing grief and loss

Free Mental Health First Aid Training for anyone who works or lives with young people aged 8 to 18
(face-to-face + on-line)
Qualifying you to support young people’s mental health, i.e. how to help young people in distress or crisis and to guide them towards appropriate support.
The course consists of 4 modules that are delivered over 4 live sessions and an average of 5 hours of individual learning which is accessed through MHFA’s online learning portal.
The training is FREE of charge, however, there is a £22 cost per delegate for the training materials (workbook, manual, action card & certificate). These will be posted to your preferred location around a week before the course is due to start.
